Lower income tax than the UK

In Jersey, you will pay less tax. The standard rate of income tax in Jersey is 20% with an extra 1% for a long-term care fund. However, you may be entitled to reliefs and allowances that reduce your tax bill. You must register for taxes and social security at the Customer and Local Services department as soon as you arrive.

Social Security (equivalent to National Insurance in the UK)

Social Security contributions for the employee are currently capped at a maximum of £257.40 a month or £3,088.80 a year.


We’ll make an employer pension contribution of 16.5%, while the employee contribution is 7.75%.

Annual leave

As a full-time employee, you’ll be entitled to 22 to 24 days leave (depending on the role) plus all of the normal UK bank holidays. We also have an extra day off in Jersey to celebrate Liberation Day on 9th May.

Professional development and Training

We are committed to providing high-quality training supporting professional development for all staff which will enable career development opportunities. We are at an exciting time in this process and are embarking on a long term learning and development partnership with SCIE (Social Care Institute for Excellence) who are working with us to co-develop the social work model for our future work. This is a collaborative process and you (along with the families and partner agencies we work with) will be able to shape and influence this process.

We have a strong partnership with Research in Practice who provide a range of training and learning events that are designed to increase both knowledge and practice skills. As part of the delivery of the new social work degree course in Jersey, we are also working with Highlands College (in partnership with the University of Sussex) to build a resource library that all social workers will be able to access.

A culture of continuous learning, secondment opportunities and annual appraisals helps to drive and ensure that individual, team and whole organisational learning is a priority.
